Once Texas and Oklahoma dropped their bombshell last year to go to the SEC, the Big 12 cobbled up what they could and acted quickly to get BYU, and the best from the AAC in UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston. Because of the pandemic, the congress was entirely virtual. One conference, in particular, knows realignment more than most that’s the Big 12 Conference. In 2021, the number of sponsors of the NABIG Congress expanded to include the Income Movement, the Basic Income Canada Youth Network, and the Fund for Humanity. 2021 Final Four team Houston joins the conference next year, and TCU is a preseason top-15 team. Such a move would create an even better basketball conference for the Big 12, which already has national champion Kansas, 2021 champion Baylor and 2019 runner-up Texas Tech. Beginning with the 2010 Montreal Congress, NABIG has been co-sponsored by USBIG and the Basic Income Canada Network (BICN) and alternated annually between Canada and the United States. If Arizona leaves, it will almost certainly be for the Big 12. The first eight Congresses were organized by the US Basic Income Guarantee Network (USBIG) in conjunction with the Eastern Economic Association meetings. The BIG Conference (formerly the North American Basic Income Guarantee (NABIG) Congress) has been held every year since 2002 with the exception of 2020, to promote networking and exchange of ideas among scholars, activists, and policy makers.
